Choosing an Elk Outfitter in Eastern Nevada

Booking a guided elk hunt is a big decision, and a hard-won tag deserves a good plan. These are the questions we’d ask, and how we answer them.

Elk tags in Nevada come through the NDOW draw, and for most hunters a good tag doesn’t come around often. Picking the right outfitter matters. Here’s what we’d want to know, and our answers.

Is the Guide Licensed?

Nevada licenses guides, and NDOW publishes its list of licensed Master Guides. Justin Moore, who owns Moore Hounds & Outfitters, is on it. Ask any outfitter for their status and check it yourself.

Do They Know the Unit on Your Tag?

Ask which units an outfitter actually hunts. We guide elk in units 111–115 plus 104, 108, and 121, 131–132, 221–223, and 231, out of Pioche in Lincoln County. Each unit page lays out NDOW’s notes on where the elk are, access, and the rules.

How Do They Scout?

Summer scouting and trail camera work are part of every hunt we guide. Ask how much time an outfitter spends in the unit before the season opens.

What Exactly Is Included?

Get it in writing. With us, guiding, summer scouting, trail camera work, and field care are included. Trailers, wall tents, and meals are extra if you want them. Tags, license, travel, taxidermy, and processing aren’t included.

Which Season Fits You?

We guide archery (Aug 25 – Sep 16), muzzleloader (Oct 22 – Nov 5), and rifle (Nov 6 – Dec 4) elk hunts for bulls, cows, and spike bulls. Confirm the exact dates for your tag in NDOW’s regulations.

Will They Help With the Draw?

The draw has deadlines, bonus points, and a second draw. Our draw application help page walks through it, and we’re glad to talk through units before you apply.
