The Town

A Small Town in Big Country

Pioche sits along the Great Basin Highway, about 175 miles northeast of Las Vegas. It started with an 1870s silver boom that made it the Lincoln County seat, and Travel Nevada puts the community in and around Pioche at just under 1,500 people.

U.S. 93 links Pioche to Las Vegas in the south and Ely in the north, with Panaca and Caliente to the south. NDOW lists Panaca, at 4,743 feet, as the low point of Unit 231.

The state parks are close too. Cathedral Gorge State Park is about 10 minutes south of town, and Echo Canyon and Spring Valley state parks are less than half an hour east. NDOW lists both Echo Canyon and Spring Valley as developed camping for Unit 231.

Lincoln County Units

The Hunting Around Pioche

Three of the unit groups we hunt fall mostly or wholly in Lincoln County. The White Pine County units, 111–115 and 131–134, are north toward Ely.

Unit 231

East of U.S. 93 from Lake Valley Summit to State Route 319, out to the Utah line. The unit right outside town.

Elk · Mule deer · Antelope

Units 221–223

West of U.S. 93. Unit 223 lies entirely in Lincoln County, and 221 and 222 reach north into White Pine and Nye counties.

Elk · Mule deer · Antelope

Units 241–245

South of State Route 319 and U.S. 93: the Delamar and Clover mountains. Mostly Lincoln County, with 243 and 244 in Clark County.

Staying Out Here

Lodging & Camp

On a hunt with us, trailers and wall tents are available at extra cost, and so are meals. Ask Justin what fits your hunt when you book.

If you’d rather stay in town, Travel Nevada lists a historic hotel, cabins, and an RV park in Pioche. Developed campsites are at Echo Canyon and Spring Valley state parks.

Getting Here

Roads In

From Las Vegas, take Interstate 15 north to U.S. 93, then follow the Great Basin Highway north. Travel Nevada puts Pioche about 175 miles from Las Vegas. From the north, U.S. 93 runs south from Ely. Once you’re here, expect dirt and two-track roads in most hunting country. For units like 221–223, NDOW recommends high-clearance vehicles and extra spare tires.
